Goals from Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan saw the home side go two down within just ten minutes of kick-off in a pulsating Europa League quarter-final second leg.

When Marco Reus cancelled out Divock Origi's goal, Liverpool looked down and out.

But two second half goals from Mamadou Sakho and Philippe Coutinho gave the Anfield crowd hope that another miracle comeback was on the cards.

And when in stoppage time James Milner crossed the ball to the back post, Dejan Lovren towered highest to head the ball home and send the home crowd - and Twitter - into raptures.

One Liverpool fan was watching the drama unfold from a hospital where his wife was in the process of giving birth.

As Dejan Lovren headed in to complete the unbelievable comeback, the new expectant father called BBC Five Live to say he would mark the feat by naming his son 'Dejan', after the Reds' hero.

Michael, who was watching it all from the hospital waiting room, pledged to honour Liverpool's new hero after Lovren's goal sent Jurgen Klopp's side through to an unlikely Europa League semi-final.

The ecstasy of new father was matched online where Twitter went ballistic as the winning goal went in.

Understandably the result evoked memories of Liverpool's other famous European comebacks.

Former Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish could not hide his emotions as he watched the celebrations take place from the stands.

Speaking after the game, a clearly exhausted Jurgen Klopp attempted to come to terms with the madness which had just unfolded.

"It is difficult to explain, it was a wonderful night at Anfield. It was brilliant, that is what European football can be at it's best," Klopp told BT Sport.

"It's hard to believe to be honest that it happened like this."

The Liverpool manager refused to get carried away with the result however, taking issue to being asked whether the win took them one step closer to the Champions League.

"Don't ask me about this s***!" said Klopp.
